Central Minnesota Karate Rank Exam Requirements
-5th Kyu Testing for 4th Kyu-
For your rank exam, you will be asked to perform the following:
I. Kata |
Heian Godan
(Judges choice of Heian Nidan
or Heian Sandan) |

II. Kihon |
Single and triple punch.
Rising block - front leg front kick - reverse punch.
Inside block - jab - reverse punch.
Outside block - elbow strike - back spin elbow strike.
Knife-hand strike - front leg roundhouse kick
- reverse spearhand.
Double front kick, beginning front leg - various
punch combination.
Double roundhouse kick, beginning front leg - back fist
- reverse punch.
Side snap and side thrust kick.

III. Kumite |
One step sparring.
Defense and attack against upper and middle level.
Defense combinations must include stratigic shiftig,
blocking, and counter attacks using both kicking
and punching.

NOTE: Emphasis for this level is a bold kata performance, a definite
understanding and application of fundamentals. An absolute
control of defense and counter during one step sparring.
