Central Minnesota Karate Rank Exam Requirements
-3rd Kyu Testing for 2nd Kyu-
For your rank exam, you will be asked to perform the following:
I. Kata |
Choice of
Empi,
Bassai Dai,
Kanku Dai,
Jion,
Hangetsu, or
Jitte
(Judges choice of
Heian Sandan,
Heian Yondan, and
Heian Godan) |

II. Kihon |
Step in triple punch.
Step in back fist - reverse punch.
Step in rising block - reverse punch.
Step in outside block - change to middle stance
- elbow strike - back fist - reverse punch.
Knife-hand - front leg front kick - reverse ridge hand
- switch legs - same arm knife-hand - short punch.
Front leg front kick - rear leg front kick - with various
punch and strike combinations.
Two step roundhouse kick - with punching combinations.
Single side snap and thrust from middle stance with
cross step, and combination kicks.
Combination step back downward block - front leg side
thrust low then high - rear leg advance
roundhouse kick - reverse punch.

III. Kumite |
Defense and attack using step in punch - middle
and upper level.
Front kick attack - middle level.
Roundhouse kick - upper level.
Side thrust kick - middle level.

Note: |
Karate-ka at this level are allowed very little
error in basic technique and application. Kumite
demonstrated in this exam should possess the
potential of ippon. |
